Sally Thornton

News by Nico

It is with much sadness that we have to share the news that a great supporter of hunting and racing in the Midlands has sadly passed away.

Sally Thornton devoted her whole life to her family, hunting and racing. She grew up in Quorn country where she met her husband Martin and moved round the country to many top hunts.

She loved following hounds and was fearless across the country on her immaculately turned out quality horses. She regularly team chased and competed successfully in the MHC ride.

Her interest in Point-to-Pointing increased when the family bought and trained son, Robert (Choc) Thornton’s, first pointers. When Choc became a professional jockey she was an avid follower and supporter.

Sally was heavily involved in the work of the MHC as its Secretary and when she gave up hunting she worked in racing at local courses. She was Clerk of the Scales at Garthorpe for a number of years and helped out at many other Point-to-Points in the area.

Her contributions will be greatly missed.
