Argot scores under rules at Leicester
Midlands Pointer Argot won the 2m Nicol & Fielding Mechanical Services Ltd Hunter Chase at Leicester on Friday to score a first victory under rules for both jockey and trainer.
"I am so pleased for my owner, Charlotte Covell, who has been sending me horses since I was 17, and has always believed in me," Cropwell Bishop-based trainer Jon Barlow told me. "Also pleased to give Rory Bevin his 1st ride in a hunter chase, a pretty good ride too!"
The horse had a day's hunting with the South Notts the day before the race as final preparation for the race.
It was a popular local victory at this course as owner, Charlotte Covell, is daughter of racecourse Chair Nick Lees, and jockey, Rory Bevin, is the son of senior course vet William. Charlotte has always wanted one of her horses to win there and the turnout prize capped off a great day.
Rory has eleven wins in Point-to-Points and works for Yorkshire trainer Tim Easterby. He was given a lift in Easterby's lorry on the condition he led up one his horses in an earlier race.
