Brocklesby Hunt Point-to-Point, Sunday 12th February 2017

Tom Strawson and Somethingwonderful

Final plans are coming together for the Brocklesby Point-to-Point on 12th February. Entries have been very good at early season meetings and the seven race card promises to provide a great days racing. Two Brocklesby jockeys have made winning starts to the season; Yasmin Burt taking the Ladies Race at the Yorkshire Area meeting at Sherriff Hutton, on Gallant Nuit, and Tom Strawson winning the Maiden Division 1 at Thorpe Lodge last weekend, on Aldergale. Both have entries planned for the Brocklesby members, as do Nick Kent, Clare Pickering and Tom Broughton. There will be lots of local interest in the DDM Agriculture member’s race, for the Countess of Yarborough Cup.

Clark Weightman again sponsor the Midland Area members race, which will attract horses from Lincolnshire and surrounding counties. The Mixed Open generously sponsored by Baillie Haylage has an impressive prize fund, with £400 to the winner and will be contested by leading horses from around the country; many of these will be aimed at Hunter Chases later in the season. Other races on the card are sponsored by Nunns Mitsubishi, Paul Wiseman Electrical, Connolly’s Red Mills, the Jockey Club and HMT St Hughs Hospital. There are races for 9 year olds and over, intermediate and maiden horses. Singleton Birch are generously sponsoring special prizes for leading owners and riders and Nottingham based Gleeds also join our main sponsors this year.

Clerk of the Course, Harry Thorpe, reports that the course is in great shape and the new fences look very impressive. There will be a selection of trade stands, with home accessories, clothing, animal and human health products, prints and pictures and everything for country lovers. To celebrate 10 years involvement with Point-to-Point racing Connolly’s Red Mills will be giving away 30 bags of dog food from their Engage Dog Food Range. There will be a good choice of food and drink outlets, and the ever popular beer tent . It looks like being an excellent days racing for “pointing” regulars and newcomers alike.

E-Tickets are available from https://www.midlandspointing.com/shop/ Entry £10 (under 16’s free) Race cards £3 (free with a flyer or e-ticket) The racecourse is within Brocklesby Park, just off the A18 near Humberside Airport. Gates open at 10 a.m
