Point-to-Point racing at Dingley

The Fitzwilliam Point-to-Point meeting takes place at Dingley racecourse, near Market Harborough, on Saturday 14th May. There are 156 entries for what was a seven, now eight-race card, following the splitting of the 2m4f Maiden Race.

There are seven entries for the first race of the day, the Hunt Members Race and Done A Runner (D. Peters) is the stand out favourite in the this one as, having lost last time out to the Bullards' Susquehanna River at Fakenham, he will be looking to get back into winning ways. We should also have a good battle between Icthec (H. Thorpe-Codman) and My Shamwari (R. Bevin) both of whom have shown recent promise under keen young jockeys.

Done A Runner also has an entry in the PPORA Club Members Race for Novice Riders, which follows, as does Icthec. Susquehanna River (P. Bullard) and Ballycarry (Mrs C. Adam) are entered here also, but ran at Garthorpe on Sunday so would need a quick recovery. Rory Bevin has a choice of two of his Father's horses in this one: Bravehearted Harry, who won two weekends running last month, and My Dad's Horse, which beat Icthec in a good finish here at the Fernie meeting. Laura Thomas may bring Gift Of Dgab, which won last time out, but also has entries at Whitfield on Sunday. Impressive Hall Kelly could run here, or in the Ladies Open later, and Jetnova is well-rated but lacks form. Three more to keep an eye on if they choose Dingley over Whitfield: Nightcap Jack, Duke of Kentford and Roseneath. Jack Andrews could ride Emperor Arcadius in this race, but it could also run later, in the Restricted, under sister Gina.

The eleven entries for the Mens Open race include four horses rated at 100 or better and the pick of these is Richard Russell's Gunmoney. Fruit Fayre (P. Gerety) recently got back into winning ways and will have a 7lb advantage over the rest, but also has an entry on Sunday, as does Templebraden (Z. Baker), who was fourth at Cheltenham and must be seriously considered too. Many Stars (D. Maxwell) was fourth behind Thetalkinghorse at the Quorn meeting at Garthorpe, but could find this opposition tough.

There a five horses rated at 100 or better entered for the Ladies Open, which has a total of 13 entries. Palypso De Creek (Miss C. Hart) is, however, unlikely to run unless the rest of this week brings a lot more rain. Gina Andrews has the choice of two good rides in Berties Dream and Sharp Suit. The former hasn't run for a couple of months, the latter won ten days ago at Peper Harow. Both are entered here and at Whitfield so read into that what you will. Kimora (Miss L. Allan) is another who was last seen at Cheltenham and could perform here. The Turner family's Sa Kaldoun (Mrs R. Turner) impressed at Higham last time out, when beating higher-rated horses. The Turners also have Bavard Court (Miss L. Allan) in this but one or other of these horses could go to Whitfield on Sunday.

The Restricted race has 18 entries and will be difficult to predict. Gina Andrews has the choice of Emperor Arcadius or Celtic Silver here, but the former may be ridden in the second race by Jack. Andrew Pennock-trained Hi Lucy Lou fell last time out when in a good position at Whitfield and may prefer this ground. Nelson's Legend was second here at the last meeting and might be another possible performer.

The three-mile Open Maiden race has 36 entries. Max O (D. Peters) is probably the pick of these, having finished second behind Bullzeye here last time. Another to be second last time is Wonderful Present, again on this course. Tik Saunders-trained Sunglasses Ron has shown potential in previous races, the last of which was against good opposition, among them Demood (T. McClorey) who could race here if it does not opt for the 2m4f Maiden which follows. Give A Hoot (G. Barfoot-Saunt) has lots of entries over the weekend and may be looking for good ground, which we will hopefully get at Dingley. Gerald Bailey trains First Goodnight (T. McClorey) which should also be considered, and Aunty Joan (S. Davies-Thomas) was second here last time and might stand a good chance too.

Aunty Joan is also entered for the first of two 2m 4f Maiden divisions which follow these. The first division also includes First Goodnight and Give A Hoot. Lead contenders in this one include Kings Red, Dreamisi (G. Disney) and Tullydonnell Flyer (E. Austin).

The second division, which starts at 6.05pm, also has Demood and Sunglasses Ron entered, so please watch the board for declarations. Other than these Mister Murch (D. Peters) stands out, as do SinginthevalleysAnother Coalition (L. Mahon) and I Am Sam (Miss C. Hart).
