Treehouse Sporting Colours Novice Riders - just two races left to enter!
Fabulous prizes are on offer from Treehouse Sporting Colours at our Novice Riders Championship Finals held on Saturday 4 June. And the good news is, there's still time to qualify!

With just two more Novice Riders races to enter - Knutsford Races Club at Tabley on 22 May 2016 (deadline this Sunday 15 May at 6pm) & North Hereford at Hereford Racecourse on 29 May 2016 - please don't delay! All entries are online via www.ponyracingauthority.co.uk.

These races are specifically designed for those relatively new to pony racing who want to have a go and be competitive alongside others who are of a similar ability. Those finishing 1st-4th plus those who entered any race which was subsequently abandoned are eligible to enter and run in the finals, due to be held at the Meynell & South Staffordshire Point-to-Point at Garthorpe Races on Saturday 4 June.

Point-to-Point Pony Racing RaceTech Graduate Award
A fantastic bursary award is on offer in 2016! The rider gaining the most points throughout the Point-to-Point pony racing season, and who will be eligible to ride as an adult the following season (i.e. age 16) and will ride in Point-to-Point races will be offered sponsorship by RaceTech via the Point-to-Point Riders Sponsorship Scheme (RSS). Last year's winner, Ben Godfrey made his debut between the flags with a win on his first race!

Charles Owen Racecourse Series gets into stride
With 3 out of 27 fixtures completed, the Charles Owen Racecourse Series offers jockeys a thrilling summer of pony racing at professional racecourses around the country.
So popular, we're doing it again!
With the first of three Conditions' races held at Aintree on 13 May, there are two more Conditions' races in both height categories - 24 July at Uttoxeter Racecourse and 18 August at Stratford Racecourse - left to qualify for the Conditions' Final in September.

Conditions' races are designed to encourage jockeys to take the step up from Point-to-Point pony racing to the Racecourse Series. The usual qualifications apply and, if your child has already competed in the Racecourse Series, they must not have been placed 1st-4th in a Charles Owen Final during the last two years (Newbury 2014 or Aintree 2015). Qualifying combinations (first 2 placed, plus next 4 combinations with most points) race off at York Racecourse on 4 September for the Conditions' Final.

And all those riding in Conditions Races will also gain points for the prestigious Charles Owen Finals at Cheltenham on 22 October 2016 and the Rose Bengal Awards.

The Rose Bengal Awards
The Rose Bengal Leading Rider and Scholarship Awards provide opportunities for both the best and those who have worked the hardest to improve their skills. The Awards were named in memory of an exceptional racing pony that died in 2008 having had three successful seasons in strong partnership with Philip Prince (now a licensed jockey). Sponsored by Richard and Dawn Prince, the Rose Bengal awards recognise riders each season for their hard work and success in the Charles Owen Racecourse Series.

Last year's Leading Riders and Scholarship Winners, in each pony height category, had the opportunity to attend a two-day training course at the British Racing School in February 2016. The advanced course included diet and nutrition, fall training, fitness, media training as well as simulator and ridden coaching. In addition to the training course, the winners' prize package included a pony racing saddle and a winners jacket! We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of the Prince family so that these Awards can be given - the prizes are fantastic, and they are open to ALL jockeys riding in the Racecourse Series.

How the Awards are decided
Riders for the 2016 Rose Bengal Scholarship Awards will be nominated by the PRA Steward for their hard work, dedication, commitment and improvement throughout the season. The overall winners will be selected by the PRA Board from the nominations at the end of the 2016 Racecourse Series.

RaceTech Graduate Award
A bursary worth £500 will be awarded to a pony racing graduate from the Charles Owen Racecourse Series who is going on to ride or work in the industry, and who we think has worked hardest and shown most promise.

And finally Huge congratulations to former pony racer 17 year old Harry Cobden, conditional jockey to Paul Nicholls and winner of the Hands & Heels Series 2016. Throughout the 15 race series, jockeys are awarded points for walking the course, place points and the Jockey Coach awards points for professionalism, good conduct and demonstrating good riding skills.
