Pytchley at Guilsborough - preview

Tristan Durrell and KASHMIR PEAK

On Sunday 7th April the Pytchley will hold their annual Point-to-Point meeting at Guilsborough (on A5199 between Creaton and Thornby – NN6 8SR).

Guilsborough will have lots of trade stands beside the course, as well as different catering options and a bar. There will be a choice of bookmakers if you wish to have a bet.

We traditionally start the Pytchley's meeting with pony racing. These are the jockeys of the future - both amateur and professional - and deserve our support. Bring your friends down to the course and cheer these brave young riders on in three races, from 1pm.

Horse racing begins at 2pm, with the first of seven races being a hunt members race for horses registered with either the Pytchley or Atherstone. Neumond and Teeton Power both won their last races, the latter being more naturally suited to a left-handed track like this one. Teeton Power's owner, Joan Tice, Also Has Teeton Kato entered in this race, but may choose the mixed open or the sixth race, the PPORA Club Members race, instead. Spanish Fleet is pointing for the first time but has three wins under rules. Gunmoney knows Guilsborough well but not been consistent of late.

Two races for maiden horses follow this. The first of these is for 4, 5 and 6-year-old horses with the youngest of these getting a major weight allowance. Two four-year-old entries from in-form Francesca Nimmo and Charlie Poste will be worth watching, the others being the Chatfeild-Roberts' Go Go Geronimo and Sarah Case-trained Felton Bellevue.

The second of these races is an open maiden. Chosen Tribe, Pelegrine Falcon and Ted Thistle are ones to watch in this one.

The Restricted Race has 21 horses entered, all of which have only one once during their careers. Some of these one last time they ran, others a while ago. Alburn, Almost There, Cornerman, Destination Dylan, Harmoney Row, Law Of Gold, Monbeg Oscar, The Triple Pillar, Thomas Shelby, Top Garry and the appropriately named Worthapunt are all ones to watch.

The feature race of the afternoon is the Mixed Open, with 12 horse entered. One of the local favourites will undoubtedly be TheTalkingHorse, who has won an open this season but was beaten last time by another entry here, Black Valentine a fortnight ago. The latter may start as favourite but has the option of the PPORA Club Members race as well. Warden Hill is also well rate, has Foxhunters' experience aplenty, but needs to recover some pointing form to win again here. Burtredgipandgump, Proximo and Teeton Kato are the challengers to these.

The PPORA Club Members Conditions Race which follows also includes Black Valentine, Gunmoney, and Teeton Kato among its entries, all of whom should feature if they choose to declare for this race over others. Challenging them could be Distime, a veteran pointer but going well for novice rider George Chatterton. Likewise, Harry Arkwright is another novice going well this season, with the enigmatic Susquehanna River. Gina Andrews has Pass The Glass in this one and should definitely be in the frame.

The last race of the day is a race for horse of 8 and upwards which has 13 entries. Wither Or Not or Dusk Till Dawn would be expected to do well in this company.
