HURRICANE VIC (Tom Strawson)

Revesby Park is the setting for the South Wold Point-to- Point races this Sunday. Now in the third year of operation, this new course will stage 7 races starting at 1.30pm with a dog show from 12noon kindly sponsored by Skinners and Top Dog Grooming. Following the final race at 5pm there will be a gate jumping competition, entries for this will be taken on the day. The main change to the course for 2019 is that there will be parking available close to the course and TV viewing of racing from the public bar. 40 trade stands are expected in the shopping village and a good selection of food outlets.

The opening South Wold, Blankney and Burton hunts members’ race has 4 entries. The Robinson family have 2 horses to choose from here; the gallant Panama Canal who at 14 years young has run creditably to be placed this season and Hurricane Vic who was recently placed third in a Stratford Hunter Chase. The improving 7 year old Master Campbell is partly owned by Ben Atkins, South Wold joint master, and trained by Becky Crosbie Starling. He was third recently at Askham Bryan and may run here or in the later Maiden race. Charlotte Covell’s Ellary makes up the quartet again he also has the option of running in the Maiden.

The second race, the open Maiden is run in memory of Melvyn Leach and sponsored by Mr and Mrs S Alcock. The pick here could be Keep It Simple who may travel from the Stratford yard of Martin and Jane Wanless, who like to support Revesby Park, and should be rewarded by a visit to the winners’ enclosure at some point in the afternoon.

5 entries have been taken for the Skinner’s Ladies Open race and here the first 2 horses past the post will qualify for the Skinner’s Ladies Open final Hunter Chase at Stratford and the winner can line up in the Timico Mixed Open Final at Cheltenham. Of these only 2 horses have been racing so far this season; Judy Wilson’s Proximo has scored twice already while the veteran Start Royal from the Alan Hill stable has been placed and won from three outings.

The D & M Barthorpe Ltd Men’s Open race is again a qualifier for the Timico final. Panama Canal and Proximo hold entries here, while course winner Big Man Doe has progressed the right way following a restricted win at Revesby in 2018. Leading Midlands Area Novice rider, George Chatterton has already won three races with Minella Friend so far this season.

African Belle likes to make the journey to Lincolnshire from Wales; a progressive 5 year old she won her Maiden at the Brocklesby in February and has since followed up in a restricted race. She may run in the Intermediate race, a qualifier for the Connolly’s Red Mills Championship final Hunter Chase at Cheltenham. Dale Peters’ The Unmentionable was fourth in a hot Intermediate at Sheriff Hutton a fortnight ago and is another to consider.

Spilsby NFU (Philip Odling) are kindly sponsoring the Restricted race. Jack Teal made a winning return from injury at Charm Park on Saturday and he may ride the consistent McMurphy here. In form rider Phil Armson could be in action on Bob’s Call whilst High Hopper is top rated for the Bevin family.

The concluding eight year olds and over Revesby Conditions race has attracted the biggest entry of 13. Rider Jack Andrews has the pick of Toby Lerone or Teeton Kato while Susquehanna River will be looking to make amends for a fall at the Pytchley last weekend.

Entrance is £10 per person with under 16’s free. Racecards are £3.
