Close finish in a Point-to-Point race

Pytchley at Guilsborough – Preview

The Pytchley meeting is at Guilsborough on Sunday 10th April 2016 and features a seven-race card including a split Maiden to end the day. There will be three pony races before the first race on the card.

The Hunt Members Race is the first race on the card, starting at 2pm. Two of the eleven entered horses have wins this season. Easythingsarebest (T. McClorey) won impressively at Dingley last time out and would be a popular local winner for Midlands Chairman Gerald Bailey’s in-form yard. Stuart Morris has two entered in this one, the pick of which is Katkolys (J. Bailey) which one the Intermediate at the Belvoir meeting by a distance last time out. Top-rated is Judy Wilson’s Proximo (J. Bailey), also trained by Stuart Morris, which lacks form this season but had good results round Garthorpe last season. The Thomas Messenger trained Teeton Kato might be worth a look, though this will be a step up in class having previously only run well in Maidens.

The PPORA Club Members Race could see as many as 20 start but several have multiple entries here and at other meetings so check declarations on the day as usual. As well as previously-mentioned Katkolys there are several possible runners with wins at the last time of asking. L’Eldorado (T. Chatfeild-Roberts) won at Garthorpe on good-to-soft ground but was disappointing the time before that so may be unpredictable and it also entered at Mollington the day before. Ballycarry won at Dingley under owner/rider Catherine Adam but is also entered in the Ladies Open. Dido won under Dale Peters at Oakley last time, again on good-to-soft ground and Mazuri Cowboy (Miss J. Harbison) is another with recent form who could take this one but is also entered elsewhere. Tulsa will only run if the ground quickens considerably. A very difficult one to predict until decisions are made by owners and trainers.

The Ladies Open is the next, due off at 3.10pm, and looks to have a high quality field. The Dawson team are likely to run either Palypso de Creek  or His Excellency with Claire Hart on board. Palypso de Creek is the stand-out favourite, having not lost a race since May 2014, and the ground is less likely to suit His Excellency. Among other good horses likely to feature are Done A Runner (Miss L. Wheeler) and Popaway (Miss I. Robinson), both of which may prefer the ground on the good side.

The Mens Open could see the return of Thetalkinghorse (T. McClorey) to a Point-to-Point course after two hunter chases recently, one of which he won. If he does not run then the likely candidate will be Gunmoney (T. McClorey) from the same training yard at Gerald Bailey’s. The latter is also in great form, with four victories so far this season. George Greenock may ride Empire Builder, again trained by Gerald Bailey, which has won twice within the last month and must be another strong contender. The King of Angels (P. Bennett) could be there or thereabouts if not declared for the earlier PPORA Club Members Race.

The Restricted features six horses with recent wins but many of these have kept their options open with Subaru-qualifying restricted races running elsewhere on the same weekend. Bingo Star (J. Bailey) – winner at Cottenham on dead ground – and The Bay Oak (T. Strawson) – Garthorpe winner on good-to-soft ground – stand out as horses with no other entries at the weekend. More Tricks (J. Day), Moscanisi (H. Morshead), The Drone (Miss H. R. Henn) and Twister Mix (J. Ridley) have all won recently but have other entries elsewhere so may not declare here. Top-rated in this field is Treacyswestcounty but is another to have entered elsewhere as well. Royal Benifet will only run if the ground quickens considerably.

Two divisions of Open Maiden follow to end the day. Teeton Kato (T. McClorey) and Connies Height (D. Peters) could feature in the first, with the optimistically-named Sunglasses Ron another one who could run well. The second division looks to be decided between Virgo The First (Miss C. Williamson), Harodale (J. Bailey), Sun Lady and Gwili Spar but there are several others who could perform on the day.

As usual the Pytchley meeting at Guilsborough will provide lots of entertainment both on and off the course and we look forward to seeing you all there. E-tickets (including a free racecard) are available from www.midlandspointing.com/shop.
