The South Notts at Thorpe Lodge - Preview
The South Notts Point-to-Point will take place at Thorpe Lodge on Easter Monday, 17th April. Thorpe Lodge can be found in Thorpe, 4m South West of Newark, off the A46. The postcode for satnavs is NG23 5PY. As usual there will be a range of entertainment for the whole family including six horse races, trade stands, caterers, a licensed bar and bookmakers.
The first race on the card is the Members race which starts at 1pm. There are 13 entries for this one including Wither Or Not, the best rated entry with four victories already this season, but they may choose the Mixed Open instead and avoid a weight penalty in the process. View the Dance is another with recent form, having recently won the Restricted at the Belvoir meeting. They have a 7lb allowance giving them a big weight advantage over some other entrants. Other horses which would attract penalties in this race include Jakros (entered at five meetings over the weekend) and Panama Canal, who may choose Dingley or the Mixed open here instead. Kashmir Peak is another with multiple entries but could feature here.
The Mixed Open race has entries which include two of the horses just mentioned: Panama Canal and Wither Or Not, but they also have other options. All Great N Theory will be looking to improve on fifth last time out, while Done A Runner and Callhimwhatyouwant both have recent third places. Warden Hill is likely to perform in this one, after a promising performance when second to Supreme Danehill at Kingston Blount.
Two horses to watch in the Intermediate race, due off at 2.10pm are probably Robin De Boss and Mahlers Spirit, the latter with three wins this season. Love Manhattan has been a little off colour recently but also has the talent to shine on the right day. Dido and Velvet Royale could perform too.
The Restricted race has attracted 12 entries including Poyntzpass and Quizzacle Nomad who have both won recently. Demood is another to watch, as are Sisco Kid and The Drone.
The fifth race is a 3m Open Maiden race for four, five and six year old horses and the first three past the post will qualify for the Goffs Spring Sale Point-to-Point Bumpers. As ever these are tricky to pick but this race has entries from Cobajay Away, Doctor Wong, Pentridge Hill and Thomas Patrick should be the ones to watch, based on form.
Finally we have a 3-mile Open Maiden Race which is also difficult to predict. Horses to watch here are probably Alittlebitless, Emory, Max O and We've Got Company could be the leading contenders.
